ASEAN and Peru festivals in Yoyogi Park

After church this morning I took a walk down Omotesdando-dori towards Yoyogi Park. The park holds a variety of festivals on weekends during the warmer months, and the best ones to visit are the international fairs. I was silly and forgot to check this year's schedule until just a couple of weeks ago so I missed some of the bigger ones, but fortunately there are still a few on the calendar for September and October: today was the ASEAN (Assoc. of SE Asian Nations) festival, along with "Oishii Peru" ("Delicious Peru").

Though not as big as some of the other festivals, there were a few booths selling colorful dresses, henna tatoos, khmer silk scarves, and even silver rings imported from Mexico.

It was a pretty nice afternoon--cool enough to walk around comfortably, and not too crowded either. Lots of interesting things to see.

A Thai food vendor. I know, I know...it's a little immature to laugh, but I couldn't resist.

If you like Thai food, this was the right place to be: pad thai, gapao gai, tom yum soup, khao man gai...I picked up a big heaping bowl of green curry and followed it up with a coconut smoothie.

Spicy green curry with chicken, eggplant, and bamboo shoots

After lunch, I headed over to watch some of the Peruvian dancers. They had all kinds of music and dance, representing the country's cultural diversity.

Most of us had a wonderful time. But one or two of us had had enough of the loud music after a while...

He insisted on sitting next to the speaker, though...
